The Hermetic tradition represents a non-Christian lineage of Hellenistic Gnosticism. The central texts of the tradition, the Corpus Hermeticum were lost to the West in classical times. Their rediscovery and translation during the late-fifteenth century by the Renaissance court of Cosimo de Medici, provided a seminal force in the development of Renaissance thought and culture. The fifteen tracts of the Corpus Hermeticum, along with the Perfect Sermon or Asclepius, are the foundation documents of the Hermetic tradition.

I just discovered on page 96 of this book, it appears to have concluded with a single page containing the following query: "DO YOU LIKE MYSTERIES OF HUMANKIND SUCH AS PROPHECIES OR LEGENDS? IF YOU SAY NO, YOU SHOULD..." and on the next three pages are advertisements for books dealing with such topics. Then the book appears to resume for the last 3 pages. I can't speak for the rest of the content as I haven't read all of it, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were other issues in the text, just a warning. You may want to purchase a different version of the Corpus Hermeticum.

very slim and shallow book
I love it and it was greater than I expected !
This book gives you a clear taste of the mystery of Hermetcism. It serves as a springboard for further inquiry into this important and mystical subject.

A review and comparison the Table of Contents and Introduction shows an inconsistency in the number of chapters. The Table of Contents lists 13 chapters while the Introduction lists 15. I didn't realize this when I ordered the book. The Introduction also states that the book includes the Perfect Sermon. When I received the book I looked through it and did not see the last two chapters or the Perfect Sermon. Perhaps these are located in another volume.
I gave it 5 stars because it gives me access to an ancient religious text that influenced Christianity for many years before being inquisitioned into oblivion. I have no basis to rate the translation, but the sense of it seems to be there. In general, gives folks like me who have an odd interest in obscure early Christian texts easy and inexpensive access to a wide variety of texts.
What we associate to hermeticism today is astrology, magia and many other mystical teachings. However the philosophy where it is loosely based is dialogy of Hermes and his students, not very different from Plato's writings.

This short text has of course no match to Plato in the deepness and coverage of argumentation, but it gives very interesting view to this less-known philosophy. The translation is very clear and understandable.
